The time of year is upon us to start pulling out gear, preparing decoys and cleaning shotguns to be sure we’re ready for opening day. Before it comes here are some tips to help that first morning go a bit smoother. Take some time out of your week to stop by your local trap or skeet range and get comfortable with your gun again. Go through your decoys and knock off the dust or mud that has accrued since last season, check the decoy line and weights be sure all are good to go.
Pull your gear out and replace batteries, check your calls and, blinds and hunting clothes. Check the tire pressure on decoy or boat trailers, grease the wheel bearings, be sure the lights work and all accessories are where they need to be. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to head out the morning of and finding the ball is missing from your hitch or that your hitch pin has walked away.
Setting some time aside a few weeks before opening day will greatly pay off for you in the field.
