Gene Carter from Yuba City, CA says “A good bunch of Specks in fresh water rice field.” Here’s a couple photos from Gene’s truck.
Ricky Bourque Jr. from Kaplan, LA says “The birds we are seeing so far are mostly localized around any cut rice fields they can find and they are sticking together. Once the hunting pressure begins we will see them split into more of the smaller groups and begin to spread out more.”
Cody Nickels from Langdon, KS says “We hunted last Sunday and seen lots of high flying flocks of specks rolling in from the north and all this week we have seen growing numbers in fields feeding in the morning. I don’t think the full push has really happened yet but some of the first birds are arriving.”
Gus Laws from Princeton, CA says “As of today lots of specklebelly geese and a few snow geese are in and moving into the area. They are all sitting on the refuges, as well as going to freshly flooded rice fields to eat during the late morning and early afternoons. With more weather coming in, it looks like we could see a few specks move south towards the Butte sink and down to the Delta”
